Isolated from a population of EMS-mutagenized seedlings homozygous for the T locus (CS69640) in a screen for enhanced expression of an alternatively spliced GFP reporter gene. hgf1-1 is a C118T nucleotide substitution, creating a premature termination codon R40STOP.
