Description:
twn1 seeds were from a large collection of embryo-defective mutants identified by the Meinke laboratory (Errampalli et al., Plant Cell, 1991), from the K. Feldmann T-DNA collection. Does not contain a functional T-DNA insert, no antibiotic resistance. Submitted seeds obtained from a selfed twn1 homozygote, previously backcrossed more than once to Ws.
Growth Requirement: germinate on agar plates with MS media + 1% sucrose, to observe germination of small secondary (twin) seedlings

Incomplete penetrance and highly variable phenotypein mutant embryos. About 8 % of seeds contain embryos that display suspensor proliferation or polyembryony; Some twin embryos are viable and germinate. In addition to twinning, some embryos show variable defects in the embryo proper early in embryogenesis. Cotyledon defects are present in about 10% of embryos/seedlings and occur independent of twinning. Defects in cotyledons/leaf organization do not extend into post-embryonic development beyond the first leaf pair. Mutant phenotype(s) appears to be embryo-specific.
