Description:
whole-genome sequenced inbred Boechera stricta accession; included in panel (CS29669) for genome-wide association studies examining flowering variation among environments and associations with climate conditions in home environments; seeds were obtained from a single mother plant and grown in the greenhouse for at least one generation
Growth Requirement: For germination and establishment, seeds are stratified in Petri dishes with damp filter paper, and then moved to a dark room at 4°C for 8 days, and then placed in a greenhouse or growth chamber for 6 days (day length: 16h; night length: 8h; humidity: 70%; temperature: 25 - 30°C). Germinated seedlings are randomized into soil-filled containers. Flats or pots can be covered with clear plastic domes for 9 days to maintain humidity. Most genotypes require cold vernalization to flower. After establishment, seedlings should be watered and fertilized as needed, until rosettes reach about 6 cm in diameter. Cold vernalization entails 4°C, ~40% relative humidity, 12h day length for 6 - 8 weeks. Flowering time may depend on length of vernalization, and generation time can be minimized with approximately 8 weeks of cold.
