Resistant to powdery mildew species Erysiphe cichoracearum and Erysiphe orontii, but not to the unrelated pathogens Pseudomonas syringae or Peronospora parasitica; altered cell wall composition; cell walls have increased pectin content and total uronic acid content than wild-type; smaller cells, smaller rosette and smaller plant size compared to wild type (suggesting a defect in cell expansion); leaves are shorter, rounder, and cupped slightly upward compared with wild-type leaves, which curl down.
