Description:
pai1 partial function missense mutant of the Phosphoribosyl Anthranilate Isomerase tryptophan biosynthesis gene, isolated in the Ws background where PAI1-PAI4 transcribed inverted repeat triggers cytosine methylation and silencing of unlinked duplicated functional PAI2 gene. The mutant was identified after screening progeny plants from a population of EMS-mutagenized Ws background seeds for blue fluorescence.
Growth Requirement: Partial tryptophan auxotroph has better growth and fertility when propagated under low light.
